About the roleLocation: ShanghaiAbout the role:
Through effective business partnering and smart risk-taking, ensure strategic legal advice, robust risk assessment, and effective and efficient legal support in accordance with Novartis Operations Legal strategy as: Lead Legal support for the China REFS, Procurement, and Operations manufacturing sites; define the legal strategy for Operations support for China and support the implementation and execution of the broader strategy of Operations in China.
Key Responsibilities:
 Member of the Novartis Operations APAC Legal Team and actively contributes to the design and execution of the function's strategy. Foster strong collaboration with China Legal team and wider Operations Legal.
 Member of the China manufacturing site leadership team/s and works with other members of the team to define and execute the strategy of the site/s and design a process for effective legal support.
 Lead Legal support for the Novartis Operations site/s in China on operational legal issues including site communications, direct and indirect procurement activities, employment related issues and third party (supplier) related issues.
 Act as lead lawyer in all assigned projects in the area of network transformation (Expansion, closing, divesting of sites / outsourcing of manufacturing), M&A and/or BD&L (acquisition, divestment, in- or out-licensing), and, as required, prepares / conducts due diligences, drafts, negotiates and reviews all related agreements, and any related internal or external communication to management, employees, authorities, interested parties (bidders), suppliers or any other third party.
 Act as a strong business partner regarding drafting, reviewing and negotiating various types of contracts related to the sourcing of goods and services from third parties and the provision of services to other Novartis group companies adopting a business focused approach.
 Draft complex transactions and contracts independently and provide complex and contextual legal advice and guidance (incl. training of key customers in specified legal areas); Identify risks relating to business activities and potential solutions thereof; raise business' awareness of legal issues and ensure early legal involvement.
 Conduct robust risk assessments that substantiate recommendations, and advise on and determine appropriate actions to support the management decision processes; Manage significant disputes and litigation and/or investigations and make decisions independently within a broad framework.
 Manages and works with outside counsel and, when and as necessary, closely monitors and controls related legal spend.
 Supports the establishment, design and implementation of clear guidelines and processes to provide optimal and timely Novartis Operations legal support for business/functions supported, transactions / projects, while ensuring their execution and implementation in accordance with Novartis Operations strategy and in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
 Support the development and roll out of standardized processes, including template agreements and training materials.Role RequirementsEssential Requirements:
 Law School Graduate & Bar member
 Acknowledged as an expert and a resource for the legal function in the manufacturing, regulatory and transactional field with the ability to: analyse complex legal issues; lead contract negotiations of several complex projects independently; and play a key coordination role with lawyers and other functional experts, and having a minimum of:
 At least 10 years post-Bar experience, ideally gained within a healthcare / pharmaceutical environment or, alternatively, with a top-tier law firm representing healthcare clients, of which,
 five years of that experience was in leading complex legal transactions, restructuring and outsourcing projects.
 Able to set priorities and to manage a wide-ranging work load under time and organizational pressure, often involving multiple projects simultaneously.
 Excellent team player with strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience working in cross-functional teams. Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence and negotiate with a clear demonstration of professional and culturally sensitive work ethics.
