- Lead the development of power connector solutions, including sockets, high-speed connectors, and cable assemblies, from market definition through production and release, collaborating closely with customers, Product Managers, Sales, and Field Application Engineers to gather actionable Voice of Customer (VOC) insights.
- Conceive innovative concepts for power connector products and perform feasibility studies, conducting mechanical and thermal simulations to evaluate design performance in real-world conditions.
- Develop engineering evaluations and proposals focused on power connector applications, creating detailed designs, including 2D and 3D drawings, and performing Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and tolerance analysis.
- Build prototype samples of power connectors, conduct validation testing to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards, and complete product qualification processes to finalize specifications.
- Provide technical support to Operations, including Quality and Production teams, to enhance efficiency and ensure safe product launches, proactively resolving product-related issues and managing Engineering Change Notifications (ECN) and Product Change Notifications (PCN).
- Develop a deep understanding of market trends and customer needs in power connectivity, fostering connections between business engineering teams and customer engineering teams to deliver optimal solutions.
- Follow the LEAN Product Development (LEANPD) Project Process to ensure timely completion of new product development projects while adhering to quality standards and budget constraints, driving product development through stage-gate reviews.
- Collaborate with global manufacturing resources, procurement, and external suppliers to meet technical, quality, and cost objectives specific to power connectors, providing thorough technical support to customer-facing teams.
- Execute comprehensive technical documentation, including design drawings, engineering change notices, and design history files, ensuring all documentation reflects product specifications and development processes.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design and manufacturing processes for power connectors, utilizing data-driven insights to optimize product performance and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
- Generally requires 5 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience with electrical components or devices, mechanical structure design, manufacturing tooling development (stamping, molding, assembly), or manufacturing process development
- Knowledge in relevant mechanic design and development, including but not limited to, material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, product qualification, etc.
- Proficient in 3D CAD applications (Creo preferred) with experience in 3D solid modeling including sheet metal, 2-D drawings, PDM link Data Manager and general knowledge in design applications such as Spaceclaim, Solidworks, or others used only in concept stage
- Occasional user of finite element analysis software (Ansys, Workbench)
- Proficient in developing and writing design objectives for product specifications
- Basic knowledge in raw material, industry standard, and product application
- Basic knowledge in manufacturing process (machining, molding, stamping, plating, assembly, etc.) [Note must have knowledge of 3 of the 5]
- Basic knowledge of quality tools (FMEA, 6 sigma, DOE, etc.)
- Proficient using MS office software (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, MS Teams, etc.)
- Proficient in geometric tolerancing
- Fluent in English (both verbal and written)
- Ability to work in a global environment – able to accommodate varying time zones and capable of collaborating with individuals across geographies.
- Proficient problem solver – able to handle moderate complexity situations and use data analytics and critical thinking to reach logical conclusions with general direction
- Solid organizational and time management skills with an ability to manage and execute multiple tasks/deadlines/projects simultaneously under general direction.
- Ability to prepare and present customer facing solutions to accurately communicate design concepts and engineering proofs.
