Job description:GIZ's Mobility and Cities Team promotes mutual learning between Germany and China, reports on developments in China to GIZ clients and engages in regional projects that allow mutual learning on sustainable transport and urban development in Asia. The team works across several projects, focused on electric mobility, freight transport, sustainable urban development, and gender-responsive transport systems. The NDC Transport Initiative for Aisa (NDC-TIA) Phase 2 is a collaborative project funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Government to promote zero-emission transport across China, India, and Vietnam. Implemented by six organizations, it supports comprehensive decarbonization strategies in the transport sector, providing policy and technical support focused on electric trucks and charging infrastructure, as well as support to city/local-level decarbonization strategies for transport. NDC-TIA engages government ministries, civil society, and the private sector to drive sustainable mobility solutions and support partner countries in the implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), address air pollution challenges and promote gender-responsive approaches.Your tasksCommunication and Knowledge Management
  • Function as communication coordinator to guide and support project staff in communications and align messaging across the Mobility and Cities Team. Review and keep up to date the communication strategy of the team. Develop strategies and identify opportunities to enhance external and internal visibility and collaboration on comms.
  • Act as focal point for the country office communication team and the portfolio manager of the cluster and support related activities.
  • Lead the strategic communication of projects in the mobility and cities team, ensuring alignment with GIZ and where relevant project-specific communication standards and corporate design. Ensure quality of communication products of the team.
  • Draft, edit, and review communication products for internal and external audiences, including reports, fact sheets, policy briefs, newsletters, web content, presentation materials etc., including text editing and layouting/visual design.
  • Develop an editorial plan, keep track of relevant newsletter deadlines, ensure regular feeds on social media channels and contributions to GIZ's Changing Transport website and the IKI newsletter
  • Monitor outreach through Chinese communication channels.
  • Support knowledge management within the Mobility Team and contribute to portfolio management, including the development of onboarding and briefing materials.
  • Train interns on communication and social media tasks.
Thematic and Technical Communication Support
  • Translate complex technical content related to freight transport, electric mobility, environmental governance, and climate-related topics into clear, concise, and target-group-oriented communication outputs. Support the portfolio manager of the cluster with strategic messaging and impact communication products for GIZ's commissioners, political partners, development banks, private sector and other relevant target groups. Develop and keep presentations up to date on the Mobility and Cities team and its key areas of work and impacts.
  • Contribute to the preparation of analytical inputs, background papers, technical briefs, summaries of meetings, workshops, and inputs for project reporting and management briefs.
Gender & Inclusive Communication
  • Support the communication and visibility of gender-responsive and inclusive project activities.
  • Ensure gender-sensitive language and messaging across all project communication outputs.
  • Assist in conceptualizing and promoting campaigns, publications, and events related to gender equity in the mobility, transport and urban sector.
Stakeholder Coordination and Project Support
  • Maintain regular communication with relevant communication and gender-related focal points at other implementing partner institutions, political partners, etc., and support the expansion of the stakeholder network.
  • Support the Project Director/Project Manager in communication and information exchange among project partner institutions and implementing partners, ensuring coherent messaging and timely alignment across projects.
  • Support the Project Director/Project Manager in the preparation of project reports, briefings, and presentations, as well as in selected coordination and implementation tasks.
  • Preparation, implementation, and follow-up of events like workshops, working sessions, webinars, and networking events, including design of related communication products (invitations, agendas, backdrops etc.), documentation and communication outputs, as well as monitoring participation in and feedback on GIZ-organized events
Skills & experienceYour ProfileRequired:
  • Master's degree in communications, media studies, public relations, or related field.
  • At least five years of work experience in communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese. Experience in content creation, social media management, and visual presentation of information. Joy in developing engaging content.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proactive, creative, and team-oriented working style.
  • Basic understanding of international cooperation and gender equity/diversity principles.
  • Experience in event management and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Adobe Express and related graphic design software.
Desirable:
  • Experience supporting senior managers or project directors in communication tasks.
  • Work experience in the transport sector, international cooperation, sustainability, or climate-related fields.
  • Work experience in gender equity/diversity or background in gender studies
  • Experience working with governmental institutions, international organizations, or multilateral projects.
  • Knowledge of German is an advantage.
