This is achieved through driving the establishment or improvement of competitive frameworks and markets for the purchase of goods and services enabled by e-technologies and resulting in continuous improvement, improved Supplier Safety and measurable savings. RTP provides procurement and supply chain consultancy services for Rio Tinto Group Companies and manages spend of around USD20 billion per annum.The China Sourcing team is one of the key components of Rio Tinto’s global sourcing and procurement strategy to ensure benefits to Rio Tinto Business Units and major projects, via providing the market intelligence and increased security of supply that will be derived from an expansion in the China Sourcing supply base.We are seeking a Contracts Specialist China Sourcing to play a key role in establishing and executing the project and procurement contracting function within the team. This position demands a strong understanding of procurement operations, commercial and project contracting, and international negotiations — particularly with Chinese partners. The role will be based in Shanghai and will work closely with the broader China Sourcing Team and various Project teams.Reporting to the Manager, Capital Project Australia, China Sourcing, and working in a collaborative and exciting environment you will:Demonstrate the application of Rio Tinto’s values of Courage, Care, and Curiosity in all decision-making and professional conductDevelop, draft, and execute contracts in alignment with Rio Tinto governance and compliance requirementsDevelop and negotiate Master Services Agreements (MSAs) to establish long-term frameworks with key suppliers/partners in ChinaNegotiate commercial and contractual terms to deliver value and mitigate riskManage contract performance, facilitate dispute resolution, and ensure service delivery standards are metDevelop robust Supplier relationship Management to support delivery performance, issue resolution, and long-term value creationCollaborate closely with internal teams to ensure seamless execution of project plansConduct supplier performance reviews and contribute to supplier development initiativesAbout youTo be successfully considered for this role, you will have:Bachelor’s degree in business, Law, Commercial, Supply Chain, or a related fieldMBA or advanced commercial qualifications are a plusOver 5 years of working experience with a proven track record in commercial and project contracting managementDemonstrated experience in negotiating contracts and drafting commercial agreementsAbility to proactively manage stakeholders and build strong internal and external relationshipsDetail-oriented and results-driven approachCapable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environmentEffective verbal and written communication skillsExperience in contracts across both Western and Chinese business environments is advantageousWhere you will be workingYou will be based in our office in Shanghai.Since Rio Tinto established its first office in Beijing almost 40 years ago with just three people, the Group has built partnerships with China that span supply, innovation, knowledge transfer, culture and procurement.
