  • This position will be responsible for the Indirect tax compliance process execution and data management, Operational advisory and Audit handling for Indirect taxes of APMM entities (for China region), ensuring that our tax compliance and reporting is delivered accurately and timely and is fit for purpose in a data-led, digitised global environment.
  • In addition to their own portfolio, managers are responsible for supervising teams of senior/junior tax staff.
  • Manage audit needs of various jurisdictions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes, controls and data quality, including effective use of technology, to manage risk and cost relating to Indirect taxes, adapting to the increasing demands for real-time, data-led transactional reporting.
  • Successful candidates will work with businesses, finance team, service providers, auditors, Tax authorities/agencies and other professionals in carrying out their responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
  • Review and approve high risk/complex ITX returns
  • Manage audit needs of China and ensuring organization is audit ready including reviewing audit documentation/workpapers prior to submission
  • Monitor and manage the timely and accurate preparation of information requests / data provision for tax returns / payments by team and, confirm that required back-up/audit trail is maintained to support tax filing positions.
  • Monitor and manage indirect tax compliance process and outside consultants for China.
  • Support China tax team to implement Tax law changes to ensure all systems are compliant.
  • Support and drive tax process efficiencies.
  • Support and contribute to finance transformation and other tax related projects
  • Review and approve indirect tax account aging balances
  • Manage the ITX legislative monitoring for China VAT
  • Manage and provide ITX operational/day-to-day advisory for China VAT
  • Manage the registration and deregistration of entities for VAT in China
  • Review and research international tax law for tax planning, accounting and compliance purposes.
  • Ensure Indirect tax accounts balances are maintained and related reconciliation process in place.
  • Manage the collation of data and preparation of reports and responses to information requests from management, China tax authorities and auditors.
  • Support the operation, monitoring and reporting of Indirect tax and related accounting controls, data quality improvement and key performance measures.
  • Ensuring effective, pro-active communication with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Supervision and management of small team of junior tax staffs including qualified and/or external consultants.
  • Collaborate with the transition team and actively support in all transition activities in accordance with the transition playbook.
Required qualification, experience & skills
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant/ Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation / MBA or similar with vast experience as below.
  • 8 -12 years of post-qualification experience in China Indirect Tax compliance & reporting, advisory and audit handling in either large global organisations or preferably in the Big 4 and in shared services or centre of excellence environment.
  • Knowledge about financial & accounting systems and processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems (preferred SAP) is required and awareness of or experience with tax compliance & reporting technologies and effective process & control operation.
  • Willingness to learn new applications and explore smart ways of working.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with different levels of stakeholder, both internal and external.
  • Detail orientated, proven commitment to high quality delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Flexible, able to work to deadlines and to prioritise effectively
  • Team player, with some experience of managing or leading small teams, including qualified professionals.
