In this position, you will conduct research in power electronics used in variable speed drives. You will be part of a local team that belongs to a global ABB Motion research organization. You will collaborate with Chinese Universities and other institutes. To secure the transfer of knowledge and technology, you will work closely with the product development organization of Beijing Drive Systems. You will be reporting to Motion Business Research Team Leader in China.Your responsibilities
  • 1 Conduct research and technology development in the field of power electronics used in variable speed drives
  • 2 Execute research projects with on-time completion and high-quality results
  • 3 Secure communication and networking with all related stakeholders
  • 4 Build long-term collaborations with local academic society
  • 5 Scan local science and technology progress in power electronics relevant for variable speed drives
  • 6 Adhere to ABB integrity and compliance policies
Your background
  • 1 Ph.D. degree in power electronics or electric drives or Master’s degree with 3+ years working experience
  • 2 Solid theoretical background in power electronics or electrical drives with publications in renowned transactions / journals.
  • 3 Good understanding and working knowledge in
  • o Variable speed drive topologies
  • o Power semiconductors application. Device modeling, gate drive design, power loss analysis, heat dissipation design, junction temperature measurement, condition monitoring, lifetime prediction, failure analysis.
  • o Power semiconductors and passive components used in low-voltage and medium-voltage power converters
  • o AC/DC and DC/DC power converters and their dimensioning for different applications
  • 4 Familiar with both analytical and simulation methods used for power converter dimensioning
  • 5 Capable of PCBA design for PoC level of implementation
  • 6 General programming skills on DSP or FPGA for PoC level of implementation
  • 7 Hands-on experience in laboratory work
  • 8 Self-motivated, high curiosity and able to work under pressure
  • 9 Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • 10 Good in both oral and written English and Chinese
