- Primary role is to provide support and advice to the IT department for internal IT requirements, and across all business departments on technology and/or data-related (including personal data) business projects. Role will primarily focus on Mainland China, but also extending to Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan and Macau SAR from time to time.
- Role will also have the opportunity to handle work relating to content production, content distribution, social media and sponsorship and advertising.
- Initially a standalone role. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly work with IT, Cybersecurity and Technology/Digital Product Development teams
- Draft and negotiate vendor agreements, license agreements and other agreements (inEnglish and Chinese) to support operations of the IT department
- Draft and negotiate technology and data agreements (in English and Chinese) to support all business functions
- Provide balanced legal and practical advice on collection, storage and usage of personal data
- Engage with government departments on applications and queries in relation to data issues
- High-level of project management skills for start-up projects and new business lines
- Develop creative legal solutions that addresses local market circumstances and helps achieve business objectives.
- Provide fast, business-oriented and tactical advice to resolve disputes without resorting to litigation while securing the best long term interests of NBA China.
- Able to understand and balance competing concerns across different business departments.
- Ability to recommend solutions on accounting and tax issues will be considered a plus.
- Ability to effectively share knowledge with other legal team members.
- Solid experience in drafting a variety of contracts in English (especially in law firm)
- Solid experience in negotiating a variety of commercial contracts (especially in law firm)
- Project management beyond handling independent contracts
- Experience in cross-border joint venture and M&A considered a plus (experience only in M&A and JVs will not be considered).
- Knowledge of basic data privacy laws in Hong Kong, Taiwan and EU a plus
- Knowledge of US and PRC anti-corruption laws and actual practical experience in handling due diligence and potential ethics and compliance issues in a multi-national organization.
- Exceptional analytical and contracts drafting skills and attention to detail.
- Intellectually curious to understand new industries, technologies, products and legal/regulatory ideas.
- Appetite to make risk-benefit analysis, trade-offs and recommendations.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task when faced with competing demands from multiple business teams.
- Tolerance for ambiguity where lawyer has to “fill in the gaps”, identify potential future risks and where business decisions may change quickly.
- Verbal and written fluency in Chinese/Mandarin and English for internal communications, negotiations, document review, research and drafting.
- IT proficiency - typing, MS Word, basic Excel and Powerpoint familiarity.
- Self-reliant and willing and able to handle work (including drafting from scratch, proof reading, research, photocopying) independently with limited help.
- Interest in basketball or sports a definite plus.
- Interest in digital media and social media a definite plus
- Has stature and social and presentation skills with both legal and business teams.
- Able to communicate effectively with management.
- Positive, enthusiastic can-do attitude.

- At least 10 years of working experience as a qualified lawyer.
- Ideal candidate is currently working in-house in a business organization with international business scope.
- At least 5 years' consecutive working experience after law school in a top law firm in a corporate/commercial department (ideally in the TMT department)
- Ideal candidate has English language work experience outside Mainland China (as a qualified lawyer and not as a paralegal or intern).
- PRC, English, Hong Kong, New York or California bar qualification - preferably dual qualification.
