For more information, please visit and follow @NaturePortfolio.About the RoleScientific Reviews will be a multidisciplinary Nature Portfolio journal specializing in review articles, covering all areas of the natural sciences, psychology, medicine and engineering. Online and open access, Scientific Reviews will focus on publishing insightful reviews without barriers to access. With the support of external Editorial Board Members, our papers will be rigorously peer-reviewed to ensure they are both scientifically accurate and make a meaningful contribution to their field.As an Associate or Senior Editor, you will support the Chief Editor of Scientific Reviews in managing the Editorial Board and editorial decision-making processes across the journal. You will support content delivery by making editorial decisions, managing peer review for specific manuscripts, and helping to expand the reach of the journal through conference attendance and dedicated outreach initiatives. Key performance indicators include rapid publication, sound peer-review practices, and high levels of service to authors, reviewers and Editorial Board Members (EBMs).This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody with a passion for science and science communication to help shape the trajectory of a newly launched, high-profile, multidisciplinary journal. The position is offered on a full-time basis and will be based in our China offices on a hybrid working basis.Responsibilities include:
  • Assist in the daily management of the journal workflow, acting as handling editor on manuscripts, providing rapid, constructive peer-review and publication decisions
  • Contribute to content development by working with the Editorial Board on the commissioning and publication of subject-specific collections
  • Establish and maintain relationships with EBMs; support the recruitment and training of new EBMs where required
  • Promptly resolve pre- and post- publication issues raised by staff, EBMs and readers (e.g. authorship, scope, ethics and consent, misconduct)
  • Community outreach, to EBMs, and potential authors, including participation at international and national conferences, Editorial Board meetings and lab visits as required
  • Input to policy development initiatives and implement editorial policy
Experience, skills and qualifications
  • PhD-level research experience
  • Thorough understanding of the scientific research community and its needs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of and interest in science in general
  • Highly self-motivated, resourceful and achievement-oriented
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong workload management and organisational skills
  • Active, supportive team player with an adaptable and flexible approach
  • Willingness to travel
