Senior Engineer

Job Description

Responsible for product development and taking customer insights identified though design thinking principles and translating them into winning innovations that address our customers primary, secondary and latent needs. They will also be the respective product expert for tissue & packaging categories.

This person will be responsible for product improvements for the tissue (bath , facial, napkin) categories and packaging projects, partially support the regional skincare /air care project, ensuring the products meet brand standards, maintain high quality and deliver on cost targets. The position is located in the Asia-Pacific region and reports to regional RD leader.

The role is critical to maintaining our global brand standards and to fuel continued growth in the bath and facial tissue categories. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all tissue products meet product cost, performance and technical requirements, comply with local regulatory rules, and deliver on the targeted customer need. This person will work closely with the regional business team to ensure alignment on planned product changes and launches.

This role will also support the regional Team with the focus on packaging specification identification and development within the Asia-Pacific region. This position requires an individual who can work flexibly to meet the needs of teams across the region. Responsibilities include:

Working with Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain, Quality, Packaging, Procurement and Sales teams, this person will:

Tissue Products-

Lead projects to ensure the quality of existing product and adherence to design specifications.

Lead tissue product development projects that deliver new benefits for customers in the region.

Partner with internal and external development teams to design, prototype, test solutions that improve the customer experience in delivery systems.

Track customer complaints and lead customer facing technical support for advanced problems.

Develop robust timelines and manage budgets.

Plan and carry out project responsibilities with limited assistance and direction.

Communicate and document project plans and results to key stakeholders.

Document and protect intellectual property

Assist leading skincare and air care product development & launch activities

Packaging-

Deliver innovative, cost effective packaging solutions which minimize cost, add value to the customer and show strong progress on sustainability for KC and our stakeholders.

Recommend and lead packaging development programs that reduce distribution cost or damage or provide competitive advantage.

Identify manufacturing and packaging vendor footprint within the region.

Partner with internal and external manufacturing sites to identify packaging and distribution requirements.

Partner with internal and external teams to locate and catalog distribution palletization specifications, packaging artwork assets and Tops Pro drawings.

Establish and maintain working relationships with packaging supplier base.

Integrate and support global graphics initiation and approval process.

Identify/develop/maintain specifications for corrugated, carton board, paper wrap and film structures within the global IPS specification system.

Identify/develop/maintain packaging standards/BOM’s within the global IPS specification system.

The incumbent must be able to:

Proven ability to aggregate customer insights and relays them into specific product initiatives.

History in driving design thinking methodologies (observational studies) to help fuel product development opportunities.

Strong technical expertise in their area of focus and Ability to translate customer requirements into technical solutions

Consistent demonstration of One KC Behaviors and Proactively takes on new challenges and experiences

Work effectively with technology development, commercialization and life cycle maximization teams for planning and hand-offs

Plan and carry out project responsibilities with limited assistance and direction

Communicate and document project plans and results to key stakeholders

Basic qualifications

A Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant major scientific field or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. Examples include Chemical engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Materials Science, Pulp & Paper Science, and Chemistry

A minimum of 5 years of experience in light dry crepe or other tissue-focused process or product development roles

Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects within required timeframes

A track record of strong project leadership capabilities

Ability to drive projects forward quickly and effectively utilizing strong collaboration, project management and communication skills

Fluent in English

Preferred qualifications

Demonstrated experience in the product development and commercialization process, including development and testing of concepts and prototypes to meet prioritized end user needs

Experience working cross-functionally with business unit marketing on a global basis

Highly creative, excellent brainstorming and problem-solving skills

Experience in relevant B2C or B2B product categories

Experience working cross-functionally with business unit marketing teams

Understanding of Kimberly-Clark products, procedures, and processes

Experience working cross-functionally with business unit marketing and sales teams on a global basis

Experience working with 3rd party vendors

Understanding of packaging supplier's printing and converting processes

Knowledge of and experience with industry standard test procedures for packaging materials and packages.

Understand correlation of final art to package design.

Understanding of Kimberly-Clark products, procedures, and processes

Global VISA and Relocation Specifications: This role is available for local candidates already authorized to work in the role’s country only. K-C will not provide relocation support for this role.
