Beijing, ChinaJob Family Group: Trading JobsWorker Type: RegularPosting Start Date: September 2, 2025Business unit:Experience Level: Experienced ProfessionalsJob Description:What’s the roleThis dynamic and exciting external facing role has the key responsibility of originating, developing and closing deals that add to the T&S Products traded portfolio, with a focus on structured, mid to long term deals in China. As part of this role, you will develop and manage existing and new counterparties, develop new businesses, and look to create new trading structures that unlock value for Shell and the counterparty. This role will work synergistically with the T&S Products Trading Desks to drive full end-to-end value.Originators are the prime relationship custodians from an oil products business development perspective, with both existing and new external counterparts, and with the relevant internal stakeholders in the region.What you’ll be doingKey Accountabilities:Contribute to maximizing profitability. Collaboration is key, as is the ability to work in conjunction with others in a joint up team.Lead deal teams and / or act as the commercial lead in deals where relevant.Coordinate activities with other Shell businesses and stakeholders. This will include providing support and engagement where necessary to various Shell teams in the region on mid-term and long-term opportunities, working with other parts of T&S and other parts of ShellBuild strong personal relationships with external counterparties, government and other related bodies, to allow win-win business opportunities to be developed.Develop and implement innovative deal structures in a business where every deal is different and individually structured and negotiated.Develop, negotiate, deliver and close deals directly or through others.Where the same customer/external partner is touched by multiple parties in Shell, proactively reach out internally to ensure an integrated approach so as to preserve Enterprise value.Work with Originators on other trading desks, and in the regions, to leverage the cross sharing of experience and skills to maximise the chances of success and value.Develop market and competitor intelligence in the Origination space for the region.Hand off deals post close to the Operations and Trading teams, while continuing to contribute to problem resolution if and when required.What you bringTo succeed in this role, you need to have a proven track record in the following:Knowledge of the China markets will be very highly regarded. This would include an understanding of customer requirements, competitor positions, regulatory constraints, international trading patterns.Understanding of Trading: knowledge of trading strategies and the mechanics of trading, a sound understanding of value-chains including a basic understanding of technical, commercial and economic considerations.Opportunity Identification, Development and Execution: spotting commercial opportunities in the marketplace (rather than just managing existing relationships) and managing these from conceptualisation to realizationRelationship Management: dealing with large customer accounts, suppliers, governments and JVs including problem resolution.Negotiating: leading negotiations and closing complex dealsProject Management of term deals including stakeholder management, both internal and external.Commercial Skills: including deal-making, contract generation and negotiation; preferably in a trading environment.Valuation, Economics and Risk management: candidates should have an understanding of, and skill in, Shell approaches to valuations, economics and risk management.Deal delivery: candidates should have a track record of deal delivery and project management.It is essential that you can show you are a resilient self-starter, display a strong commercial acumen and can contribute effectively to teamwork.You need to have excellent analytical and numerical skills, as well as communication, influencing and persuasion skills.Must have the courage to speak up, try new things and challenge the status quo.A proven ability to work in diverse cultural environments is a plus.Due to the nature of the role, frequent business travel is a pre-requisite.What we offerYou bring your skills and experience to Shell and in return you work with talented, committed people on one of the most important challenges facing our planet.
