- Manage a defined portfolio within clinical medicine, ensuring the delivery of profitable and competitive book products.
- Contribute to or lead commissioning activities, including identifying new opportunities, building author pipelines, and developing publication plans aligned with strategic priorities.
- Monitor developments across the publishing industry and academic community to identify emerging trends, new content areas, and innovative formats.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with authors, editors, contributors, and key opinion leaders.
- Apply editorial policies and processes consistently across all acquisitions and project development activities.
- Oversee or support peer review, proposal assessments, contract negotiation (with guidance for Associate Editor level), and shaping of new projects.
- Ensure the quality, integrity, and market relevance of all projects in the portfolio.
- Investigate and resolve publishing or research ethics cases—independently at Editor level, and with guidance for Associate Editor level—in collaboration with the Springer Nature Research Integrity Group where required.
- Work closely with editorial services, production, marketing, and other internal departments to ensure timely and efficient progression of titles.
- Maintain ongoing communication regarding schedules, workflows, and program priorities.
- Represent Springer Nature at academic conferences, institutional visits, and through virtual outreach; travel requirements may be higher at the Editor level.
- Develop and strengthen networks across academia and the clinical medicine community to enhance program visibility.
- Contribute to initiatives that support the company’s reputation and values.
- Degree‑level education or equivalent, preferably in a relevant discipline.
- Knowledge of the editorial process and the scholarly publishing lifecycle.
- Understanding of financial, commercial, and quality metrics relevant to academic publishing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and relationship‑building abilities.
- Proactive, with the ability to identify opportunities and act on them.
- Willingness and ability to travel for conferences and author engagement.
- Some exposure to academic publishing or a related field.
- Developing skills in commissioning, author management, and editorial decision‑making.
- Works with close guidance from senior editorial colleagues.
- Prior experience in an editorial role, ideally within academic or professional publishing.
- Demonstrated ability to independently commission, manage, and grow a publishing portfolio.
- Strong market awareness and established networks within the clinical medicine community.
- Greater autonomy in decision‑making, negotiation, and ethics case handling.
