- Collaboration on or lead wind turbine technology or wind supplier reviews for high profile Independent Engineering (IE) and Technical Advisory (TA) projects in support of the financing, sale and/or acquisition of wind projects and portfolios. These turbine reviews will typically include a review of: design certificates; turbine architecture; main component design and suppliers; site suitability analysis conducted by the manufacturer; test reports for components; known technology issues; etc.
- Liaising with sub-contractors regarding gearbox, drivetrain and bearing reviews, performed on UL's behalf. To include the distillation of key concepts and summarization in IE and TA reports.
- Conducting desktop reviews of operational performance, root cause analyses, technical aspects of turbine supply agreements, and checking reasonableness of CAPEX and OPEX costs.
- Performance of turbine OEM or main component supplier visit in support of the technology review, interface with OEM on behalf of clients.
- Performance of site visits during construction and commercial operation to observe and comment on Civil work, turbine installation, commissioning and operation.
- Interfacing and communicating with turbine suppliers, reviewing turbine technical specifications and providing input to UL's energy team regarding turbine technical specifications to be used in energy production forecasts.
- Carrying out plausibility reviews of turbine power curves and supporting the analysis of the significance of known and identified turbine.
- Reviewing turbine supply agreements, interface between turbine scope of supply and Balance of Plant scope of work and schedule and power curve, noise, defects, serial defects and availability warranties.
- Maintenance and updating of UL's turbine technology review database. Support and preparation of proposals for turbine technology reviews, including scope of work, definition of team, budget and schedule for completion.
- Attending regular departmental and team meetings; participating as appropriate in industry associations/groups.
- Representing UL at conferences and business development meetings as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- B.S. degree in electrical/mechanical engineering;
- +5 years' experience in the renewable industry, with experience on Wind Turbines;
- Excellent project management skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate highly complex engineering, construction, and operational issues to lay people;
- Fluency in Microsoft Office products;
- Fluency in English and local language;
- Valid Driver's license with an insurable good driving record;
- Work effectively with colleagues to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products;
- Ability to maintain good relationships with clients;
- Familiarity with and practical knowledge of related disciplines, with ability to independently grasp and articulate fundamental engineering concepts;
- Self-starter with ability to schedule and prioritize tasks and commitments;
- Willingness to travel; and,
- Ability to climb to heights of greater than or equal to 80m.
