The ideal candidate will be responsible for translating spoken and written content ensuring that both expatriate leadership and incoming operational staff can communicate effectively with local contractors, government bodies, vendors and internal teams.Role Accountabilities
  • Provide accurate and timely interpretation in real time between Mandarin Chinese and English during online and in person meetings, site visits, and construction-related activities.
  • Assist in translating written documents as needed, including construction plans, safety guidelines, and project updates, ensuring the meaning and context are preserved
  • Work may be on-site, off-site, face-to-face, or remote via technology platforms such as Zoom, MS Teams, etc.
  • Provide cultural mediation and understanding to help bridge cultural differences and ensure mutual understanding of all conversations between parties.
  • Provide insights into cultural nuances and context that may impact communication.
  • Review and proofread translated materials as required to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Work closely with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to understand their needs and provide tailored translation and interpretation services.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of translation processes and practices.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and adhere to company policies and strict confidentiality protocols regarding data protection as well as project and company information.
Required skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as an interpreter, translator, or similar role, preferably in a construction or project management setting.
  • Strong understanding of construction terminology and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese and English.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • In-depth understanding of Chinese and English cultures and the ability to navigate cultural differences effectively.
Certifications:
  • A degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certified by the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) at Level 2 or higher.
  • Any additional certifications in translation or interpretation from recognized international bodies are highly desirable.
