- Assist the librarian with order data entry.
- Assist students, staff members, and caregivers in locating and utilizing materials and technology.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and attractive environment; assist in the preparation of displays. Renew the books on display regularly.
- Receive, process, and circulate, when appropriate, all magazines and newspapers.
- Assist with the training of volunteers.
- Collaborate with the librarian to plan and deliver information literacy instruction as needed, either through co-teaching sessions or independently in the librarian's absence.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the librarian.
- Maintain familiarity with rules regarding library procedures, the Dewey classification system, operation of computer systems, and resources to answer patron questions and assist them in locating materials.
- Circulate library material, including checking materials in and out.
- Notify patrons of overdue materials and take necessary steps so that all library materials are returned or paid for.
- Assist the librarian in creating orders for new library materials.
- Maintain the library collection; shelve books and read shelves for misplaced items.
- Carry out basic repair of library materials when necessary.
- Oversee the inspection and routine maintenance of audio-visual equipment (charging batteries, assuring that technicians replace bulbs, etc.).
- Operate, maintain, and provide for record-keeping and secure storage of audio-visual equipment.
- Assist in inventory and weeding.
- Communication skills: Good communication skills for the effective exchange of information, giving/receiving instructions and responding to inquiries.
- Data Recording/Record Keeping: Ability to perform accurate and timely data recording and record keeping operations.
- Computer Skills: Basic word processing and database skills; facility with accessing information from the Internet.
- Student Management: Ability to command respect from students and to respond effectively to their needs.
- Bachelor's degree, preferable if degree in education or language
- 3 years working experience
