Students enrolled in UIC degree programmes are taught in English, so the ELC is responsible for ensuring that they are prepared for both the language and academic requirements of courses that use English as a medium of instruction. Now the ELC invites applications for appointment as lecturers in September 2024.Job Duties of Lecturers
1. Teach* ELC courses to students from various Faculties or Schools within the College;
2. Teach* on the College's other English enhancement initiatives;
3. Provide extra-curricular English language support through the centre's Student English Learning Hub;
4. Carry out teaching related administrative work (e.g. maintaining accurate student attendance records, assessment scores and other required records);
5. Collaborating with colleagues (convenors and team teachers) to address teaching issues;
6. Participate in initiatives related to learning and teaching;
7. Perform duties assigned by the Dean of SGE and the Centre Head of ELC.*Teaching at the Centre refers to
· Delivering classroom interactive teaching;
· Customizing course materials to meet specific needs of students;
· Evaluating students' assignments and assessments;
· Meeting students in scheduled consultation hours to address English language learning issues.Job Requirement
1. Candidates for lecture should hold a minimum of a Master's degree with at least two years of English language teaching experience at university level ; Candidates for Senior lecturer/assistant professor should hold a minimum of a doctoral degree with at least three years of English language teaching experience at university level.
2. Candidates should be qualified and experienced English-speaking teachers who can teach all four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to our undergraduate students.;
3. Experience in teaching English for academic purposes would be an advantage;
4. The appointee should have a strong sense of commitment and professionalism, excellent teamwork skills, and be able to build good rapport with students and colleagues;
5. Candidates should be proficient in using MS Office, Moodle/iSpace;
6. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree may be considered if they can demonstrate substantial previous university teaching experience.
7. A TEFL/TESOL certificate is requiredBenefits and Appointment Terms
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Fringe benefits include housing allowance, leave and social insurance.
