- Researching and developing design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of new engine products and components.
- Implementing design and integration ideas, system configuration and design in accordance with applicable design guides and standards.
- Interaction with suppliers and internal/external partners to develop component and system solutions.
- Development of Design Briefs, cascading requirements to component design engineers, provides support and guidance (with decision making authority).
- Managing BOM (build of materials) for multiple engine builds
- Self-management of assigned tasks to agreed customer critical requirements, delivering high quality work to documented or novel processes within agreed timescales
- Close liaison with performance and mechanical development engineers, engine designers and project teams
- Acting as the integration point between L5 application and L3 design teams
- Systems Thinking: Knowledge of the critical interdependencies among individual system elements that help and hinder performance; ability to plan and design solutions that synchronize resources to achieve business results.
- Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
- Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
- Business Process Improvement: Knowledge of business process improvement best practices and ability to use methods for identifying, evaluating, introducing and implementing more efficient approaches to performing business related activities.
- Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
- Bachelor or master in mechanical engineering or related engineering major
- 8 years + engine system/components development related experience
- Be an expert user of CAD systems for modelling and detailing, ideally Creo (Pro/e)
- Demonstrate knowledge of engine fundamentals
- Demonstrate knowledge of manufacturability considerations for engineering changes and releases and demonstrated examples of correct application of same
- Have the ability to take the lead in technical discussions, to specify component requirements and to understand the interactions which influence system performance.
- Able to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers.
- Ability to build effective relationships across a matrix organization
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of the structural dynamics and Virtual Product Development (VPD) tools to improve engine or machine structure designs
- Have experience of working with PLM tools for developing assemblies of engines or whole machine design (eg Teamcenter Visualization Mockup)
- Be proficient in detailed component design
