We are looking for a University Guidance Counsellor for an International School based in Shanghai. This is a full-time position starting from August 2024 academic year.About the schoolLocated in Minhang District, this bilingual boarding school for children aged 6-18 merges the Chinese national curriculum with the International Baccalaureate. Its university-style campus offers education in Mandarin and English, integrating Chinese and international teaching methods. The school focuses on global preparedness, language and heritage preservation, and prides itself on nurturing each student's unique talents for their personal, social, and academic growth in a respectful and proud environment.About the role
  • Acting as a guiding light for high school students, helping them discover their study directions and interests
  • Working one-on-one with students to develop customized guidance plans tailored to their individual needs
  • Gathering students' information, tracking their learning progress, and ensuring smooth communication with teachers and parents
  • Assisting in the writing and revision of students' essays, as well as guiding them through the submission of online application materials
  • Providing interview coaching for students and offering psychological counseling to both students and their parents
  • Preparing students for visa acquisition post-admission and offering psychological support and life advice before and after their journey oversea
  • Engaging with visiting universities, facilitating public lectures, and contributing to Open Day presentations, admissions interviews, and other school activities
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications preferred
  • Experience in academic advising, college admissions, or high school counseling with a strong understanding of standardized tests and admissions criteria
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and educators
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, capable of handling multiple student cases efficiently
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds, adept at guiding a diverse cohort through the admissions process
Salary and benefits
  • Monthly salary of 29,000 to 35,000 RMB commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Monthly accommodation allowance of 8,000 RMB
